A woman was found dead in an Arizona City duplex Thursday morning after a fire in the 10500 block of West Carousel Drive.
Pinal County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the report of a house fire at around 5 a.m. Fire crews from the Arizona City Fire District put out the fire, but afterward discovered the body of a woman who lived there.
Arizona City fire fighters received mutual aid from the Eloy Fire Department as well as the Casa Grande Fire Department.
The Arizona City Fire District was called back to the scene at least once to extinguish small flare ups of the fire later on that day.
Personnel from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene until late in the day conducting the investigation into the woman’s death.
Pinal County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Elias Johnson said that the death was ruled a suicide and an examination of the body showed the woman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, not as a result of the fire.
A handgun was found under her body and a farewell note was nearby.
No one else was home at the time of the fire.
The woman’s name was not released because the next of kin had not been notified.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
