GILA RIVER INDIAN COMMUNITY — Phoenix Premium Outlets are scheduled to open today.
Kicking off a four-day grand opening celebration featuring live music, special discounts and more than 230 prizes, including the grand prize of a $5,000 shopping spree, the 90-store high-end outlet center opens just less than a year after breaking ground.
Maura Eggan, western region vice president for marketing for Simon Property Group, said the outlets are well placed to attract business from not only the Valley and nearby cities like Maricopa but also from Tucson and other travelers on Interstate 10.
“Outlet centers draw people,” Eggan said. “When they first started their life, they were in really remote locations. This is not inconvenient by any stretch. It has great freeway visibility.”
It also will draw visitors staying at the two nearby hotels and visiting attractions such as Wild Horse Pass Casino, Whirlwind Golf Club and Rawhide Wild West Town.
With major retailers that people would recognize — such as Nike, Tommy Bahama, Old Navy and more — Eggan said there are a number of stores that will draw shoppers of all types.
“These stores have a wide selection of merchandise with very knowledgeable sales associates,” she said. “The main reason the people come here is the value ... but we didn’t skimp on the amenities.”
The outlet center will have an indoor food court, a children’s play area and fans along all the outdoor walkways.
The outlets are located on Wild Horse Pass Boulevard, which is exit 162 off I-10. The outlets will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the four-day grand opening celebration. More information about the outlets is available online at PremiumOutlets.com/Phoenix.
