A 26-year-old woman from Mesa was killed Thursday night in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 10 north of Casa Grande.

Department of Public Safety officials said Natasha Malkin, 26, was driving her 2002 Volkswagen eastbound when she crossed the center median and collided head-on with a 2012 Chevrolet pickup driven by Robert Jackson, 53.

Malkin was transported to Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, where she was pronounced dead. Her passenger, Tyler White, 23, suffered numerous injuries including a broken leg and was also transported to Maricopa Medical Center. Jackson was transported to the hospital for minor injures, according to DPS.

The accident occurred shortly before 6 p.m., and officials with the Arizona Department of Transportation closed the westbound lanes at the Pinal Avenue exit for Arizona 187 and 387 at 6:45 p.m.

Westbound drivers were detoured onto Arizona highways 187 and 87.

The westbound lanes of I-10 were reopened around 8:30 p.m.
